Dear Parents,
The weather is cooling down, but here at GBA our sports and activities calendars are filling up! October and November are jam-packed with exciting events, and we hope that your child will participate in as many activities as possible. Our goal at Granite is to partner with school families to help all of our students thrive academically, spiritually, and socially, and all of our school programs are designed with these goals in mind.
Looking Back
- Students donated a truly impressive number of items for Hurricane victims. Our hallways were packed out with water bottles, paper towels, blankets, clothing and more. All donations were given to distribution centers in areas that needed it most.
- Magician and Evangelist David Corn visited our chapel on October 16 to entertain students with his dazzling illusions and share a powerful Gospel presentation.
- Parents stood alongside their 12th grade students as we honored our senior athletes and their families at Senior Night.
- Our Lil’ Guardians soccer team kicked off their first practice! They are eagerly anticipating their first game this Saturday, October 19.
- Sixth grade enjoyed a pizza party to celebrate being the first class to hit 100% registration in our Color Fun Run fundraiser!
Looking Ahead
- Athletics
- Lil’ Guardians games will begin this Saturday. Schedules have been published to families.
- Sign-ups for basketball and cheer in the secondary (7-12 grades) have started. Both of these teams will begin practices in November.
- Pumpkin Contest: Our arts department is sponsoring a Book Character Pumpkin Decorating competition from October 21-23! Students will have the opportunity to carve or decorate a pumpkin to look like a book character. Prizes will be given for Pre-K, Elementary, and Secondary. Flyers have gone home in Friday folders. This is an optional competition, but we hope lots of our students participate to beautify our campus and show off their artwork!
- Grandparents Day: We are planning a Fall Harvest Festival for our elementary Grandparents again this year. School will dismiss at 12:00 noon on this date and Aftercare will not be available.
- Upcoming Field Trips:
- 3-4 grades will go to the aquarium on October 29.
- 1-2 grades will go to the Science Center on November 12.
- Bookworm Club: Encourage your child to read, log their progress, & earn prizes!
- Color Fun Run: We are pleased to announce that we have surpassed $20,000 in donations and are now more than 80% of the way towards hitting our fundraising goal of $25,000! Please continue to donate towards this event; all of the proceeds will go towards our school programs, equipment, and improvements. A schedule of events has gone home to families.
- Spirit Week: Spirit Week is right around the corner (Oct. 28-Nov. 1)! Plan to send your child to school in themed costumes for the opportunity to win prizes. A few important notes:
- K3-K4 will participate in a morning parade every day during Spirit Week. Parents who wish to watch the parade should drop their children off at their regular time, then park in the front of the building. Students will march with their class in the front of the church building around 8:30 AM, showing off their costumes and enthusiasm (students who don’t wear costumes will still be allowed to march).
- K5-12 grade students will participate in morning assemblies where they will have the opportunity to win prizes for themed costume contests.
- Seniors will sell “Spirit Links” (paper chain links) for $.50 each to raise money for their senior trip. Students will compete schoolwide to see which team can get the longest paper chain.
More detailed information about Spirit Week has been emailed home; please reach out if you need any other information.
- Dress Down Passes: Seniors will begin selling Dress Down passes for $1 each starting November 1. Students who wish to purchase a Dress Down pass will have the opportunity to wear casual clothing on the day of their choosing (school dress standards still apply—please keep an eye out for more detailed information).
- Christmas Programs: Our Christmas programs will be held on December 13 and include all students from K3-12 grade. We will have identical programs at 5:30 PM and 7:30 PM. Tickets will be free, but families must register to claim their free tickets to ensure that we have enough space for all family members. More information will be sent home in the next couple of weeks.
- Parent Teacher Conferences on November 8: Our school will be closed; please plan accordingly.
Reminders:
Car Line: As a reminder to parents, car line is designed to allow parents to quickly drop off/pick up their children without having to get out of the car. We ask that you please stay in your car during drop off and pick up. If you wish to walk to your child’s classroom, we welcome you to park in the front of the building and walk to the classroom doors. Please do not use car line to discuss classroom issues with teachers.
As you can see, there is a lot to get excited about this month and
we want to be a blessing to your family. As always, reach out to our
school office if we can answer questions or be a help to you in any way.
